The NLL Play-In Challenge, For Anyone With More Than 9/30 Cool Cats
4/18/22 UPDATE: See list of winners at the bottom of this article
**This challenge is open to anyone in the Top Shot community who has at least 9 out of 30 unique Cool Cats in their collection! All accounts will be verified at the beginning and end of the Play-In Challenge.
The NBA Playoffs Play-In Tournament is coming! It’s going to be an exciting couple days where teams will have to prove that they deserve a spot. How about you — are you up for a challenge?
For this contest, make a showcase featuring moments from 4 different players. These must be players that are eligible to play during the Play-In Tournament. Once your showcase is completed, fill out this Google form. Each player must represent a different team from the play-in! Finish your showcase and submit the Google form before tip-off of the first Play-In game to be eligible.
Players will represent the current team they play for, which is not necessarily the one listed on their moment!
If you have questions after reading this post, email them to nll.challenges@gmail.com and we will respond when we can. Please keep in mind this is community run, so be patient and have fun!
Scoring
Player Scoring
You will score points based on the best +/- in a single game of each player featured in your showcase.
Each point of +/- is exactly equal to 1 point for scoring. So a +/- of 15 is worth 15 points for this challenge. Your cumulative score will determine where you’ll be ranked on the final prize leaderboard. If a player plays more than one game in the tournament, their highest +/- from one individual game will be the score that counts.
*If you use a fandom, rare, or legendary moment, it will prevent that moment’s score from dropping below 0. This is the “F-R-L Floor” bonus. If you use common moments, you can have a negative score!
Team Bonuses
These are based on the player’s current team, which is not necessarily the one listed on their moment.
- The player’s team advances to the playoffs: +5 points
- The player’s team wins at least 1 game: +5 points
- The player’s team scores the most points in a single game: +5 points
- The player’s team holds its opponent to the least points in a single game: +5 points
- The player’s team scores the most 3-pointers in a single game: +5 points
- The player’s team grabs the most rebounds in a single game: +5 points
- The player’s team makes the most assists in a single game: +5 points
Prizes — $2100
If there is a tie, the tiebreaker will be based on the lowest total serial count of the moments used in the showcase.
- 1st: $300
- 2nd: $200
- 3rd: $100
- 4th-30th: $30
- 31th-99th: $9
- Last Place (with valid showcase): $9
- Two Random Winners (from all who correctly pick the 4 teams that advance): $30
Example Good Showcase
- Moment #1: Karl-Anthony Towns, representing the Minnesota Timberwolves
- Would be eligible for the Fandom/Rare/Legendary (F-R-L) Floor bonus, so if he puts up a negative +/-, it wouldn’t count against you and instead would score a 0 for his player score (and still contributes whatever team points he gets from the Timberwolves)
- Moment #2: LaMelo Ball, representing the Charlotte Hornets
- Moment #3: Bruce Brown, representing the Brooklyn Nets
- Moment #4: Norman Powell, representing the LA Clippers (not the Toronto Raptors — all players represent their current team, not the team listed on their moment)
Example Bad Showcase
- Moment #1: Josh Hart, representing the Portland Trail Blazers
- Actually this moment is fine, but it leads to this….
- Moment #2: Josh Hart — can’t have 2 moments of the same player — invalid moment. You can still compete for prizes that don’t require 4 valid moments (but good luck).
- Moment #3: Jimmy Butler, representing the Miami Heat — they aren’t in the play-in, so again, invalid moment.
- Moment #4: Lonzo Ball, representing the Chicago Bulls — so the Bulls aren’t in the play-in, and though the moment lists the New Orleans Pelicans who are in the play-in, it’s the current team of the player in your moment that counts, not the team on the moment. Again, invalid moment.

In total, we had 717 entrants to our first community-wide challenge! Of those, 53% were current NLL members and 47% were non-NLL.
We will be distributing a total of $2589 of the NLL’s budget to the winners, $1686 of which will go to winners within the NLL and $903 of which will go to winners outside the NLL.
As this is the first community wide challenge we have ran, there may be a minor delay in distribution of the Dapper balance winnings. Please allow for 1–3 weeks while this is completed.
If there are any delays, we will update that here. Thank you all for participating in the first community-wide showcase challenge ran by the NLL, and keep your eyes peeled for the next community-wide challenge in the near future!
